About

Pete Hannan was born in Bayside Melbourne, to a family of ocean lovers, swimmers, surfers, divers, skiers and artists. It’s no surprise he has spent most of his life in and around the ocean and is an active educator around ocean issues: warming, acidification, pollution, over fishing etc.

Pete’s working life has always taken place outdoors, for instance milking, fishing, crayfishing, fencing and horse trail-riding. Half of his year is usually spent in icy climes like Iceland, but also Greenland and other Arctic and Antarctic environments, taking photographs and enjoying extreme weather conditions.

His home base is a beautiful and remote ex-farm surrounded by National Park, south of Tathra. His love of Earth’s environment, and respect for her oceans and natural treasures is palpable in his work: the intense colour, calm reflections, galactic events and the wild extremes of nature and her creatures.
